Release Notes
A steady stream of YNAB improvements for your reading pleasure. Grab some tea. Curl up with a Snuggy® and enjoy.
September 11th, 2023
Just like a new school year, our latest release is all about mastering new skills and correcting old homework mistakes. We have temporarily rolled back our exciting new feature where transactions imported without the need for any clicks on your part. This means the Bank Import button is coming out of retirement in the web app for a bit while we resolve some syncing issues between devices. Note that your bank connections have not been affected—you are still able to import transactions using both direct import and File-Based Import.
Next, we’ve turned in some overdue homework and fixed a pesky bug. In the past, clicking on a transaction from the Spending or Income v Expense reports was like trying to find Waldo in a sea of identical twins. Now, you’ll land right on the transaction in question, highlighted for easy discovery.
August 30th, 2023
August slipped away into…a YNAB release note! Today, we’re launching two updates to simplify the transaction processing and bulk editing flow. Now, when you select transactions, editing options will appear right before your eyes. You can also launch these options with a simple right-click on any transaction or selection! Want to learn more? Ben has you covered.
Stay in touch with your spending, make quick edits, and get back to living the good life 😎.
July 31st, 2023
Good news for developers who use our Public API—we’ve upgraded the API specification to use Open API 3.1. This is a mostly transparent change that will improve the tooling around the API and make building clients an easier and dare I say it, hAPpIer, experience. Don’t @ me 😁.
June 26th, 2023
Today’s update introduces Focused Views! Gone are the days where you can only choose one way to organize your spending plan. This feature allows you to create customized views of your budget to surface only the categories that you (and your partner!) want to see, when you want to see them. Clear Eyes, Focused Views, Can’t Lose!
Get the quick scoop from our resident Dollar Scholar, Ben M. Or take a deeper dive into some of the customized views that YNABers are already using today!
May 31st, 2023
May we offer a suggestion? Instead of scrolling through your entire category list every time you enter a transaction, our smart category suggestions will now surface the most likely options based on past transactions. This feature, like 👖denim fashion👖, is still evolving and will get better the more you use YNAB.
April 5th, 2023
Reconciliation just got easier for linked accounts! You can now see if your linked account balance in YNAB matches the balance at your bank without leaving YNAB. When it does, only one quick click and you’re reconciled. When it doesn’t, we’ll highlight the balance mismatch so you can figure it out quicker. This will make reconciling your linked accounts faster and smoother. So why not give it a try today and see for yourself? 🎉
April 3rd, 2023
April Fools is in the rearview, and today’s update is no joke! We’ve made updates to how we test each YNAB release before it hits your browser.
March 29th, 2023
When logging into YNAB yesterday you may have noticed that we redirected you from app.youneedabudget.com (rolls right off the tongue) to the snappier app.ynab.com! Please update your password managers and other login tools accordingly. You can read more about the update at this informational webpage here.
March 27th, 2023
Don’t mind us, just squashing early season bugs over here today. Today’s squashed list includes an issue when matching a split transaction to an imported one and a mind boggling reconciliation notice informing you that your balances are off by $0 are no longer.
New YNAB motto: We worry about 1000th place decimals so that you don’t have to!
Hmm, okay still workshopping that one.
March 22nd, 2023
Here’s to a new season! This week we have our virtual brooms at the ready and we’re spring cleaning software-style. Less release notes means more time for you to get your actual broom going…
March 20th, 2023
Ever discover $20 shoved in the pocket of a coat you haven’t worn since last winter? That’s a great feeling. Discovering $20 (imaginary) dollars hiding in a closed account is not. We made closing an account a little friendlier so that doesn’t happen. Now go check your coat pockets for spare cash before you put them away for the season!
March 15th, 2023

January 9th, 2023
In today’s release, we’ve added Bank Import Details to our public API. Not familiar with our public API? You can check it out here. We also fixed an issue where you might be invited to join a YNAB Together group, join said group, and then find yourself unable to access any budgets or do any actual budgeting. Not good, not the point. That won’t happen anymore.
January 4th, 2023
Hello 2023! We’ve made the process of linking YNAB to your bank accounts even easier by simplifying the flow for setting up multiple accounts from a single financial institution in one fell swoop. Go forth and link! Plus, good news for those with smaller window sizes: your manage payees modal will now be sized appropriately and scrollable. We also addressed an issue where you could accidentally pair a loan account with a hidden category and tidied up the spacing of the Hidden Categories row. We hope your year is off to a great start, we’ve got a feeling it’s going to be a great one for YNAB.
December 7th, 2022
This release is fixing a small bug with our loan payoff planner causing inflated balances with certain interest rate changes. And we sprinkled a few additional fixes to be shiny and ready for the holidays ✨
December 5th, 2022
In today’s release we’ve fixed an issue where the message explaining how a monthly debt payment target will impact the corresponding loan’s payoff date was more or less unreadable in dark mode. We generally don’t believe in invisible messages—unless they’re messages written in invisible ink for the purposes of magical mischief (!!)—you can see this one now 👀
November 30th, 2022
Today is a good day for loan account users! We’re releasing a new layout for our loan accounts that includes a new data visualization that will give you better insight into different payment possibilities. With the new progress chart, you can easily see the history of your loan payments and how you are tracking towards your debt payoff goals. We also revamped the paired category card within loan accounts to give you a better glimpse of your debt payment target information, and added the option to open up our payoff simulator directly in your budget! With these tools at your fingertips, debt doesn’t stand a chance 🔥
November 28th, 2022
If you noticed something odd in your category progress bars when you recently overspent (?), fear not: today’s release reverts a change that caused overspending to be represented incorrectly in progress bars (and P.S. here’s how to turn the bars on if you haven’t seen them in a while). Speaking of visualizations, today’s release also includes improvements to the Loan Payoff Simulator so that the Original Payment Schedule more closely follows your actual payments.
November 21st, 2022
It’s our favorite day of the week: Monday! To celebrate, we’re here with the updates you’ve been looking for. We’ve reimagined the account header to give you even more insight and control over your accounts. This update makes it easier to access the most important account information while reconciling against accounts in separate windows, allows you to edit account details directly from the account screen, and provides helpful definitions for uncleared, cleared and working balances. In mobile land, you can now set custom names for transaction flags in YNAB on Android! This update allows you to give your flags a useful name like “Health Care” or “Tax deductible” or, well, just about anything! That’s all for today. Happy Monday!
November 16th, 2022
Workin’ at the car wash, the car wash, yeah! We’re currently polishing up the latest YNAB improvements, getting them ready for your test drive. Nothing to say yet, but see you at the next pit stop!
November 14th, 2022
In addition to laying the foundation for some exciting upcoming features, today’s update addresses a bug that caused old targets to persist after linking an existing loan account to an existing budget category.
November 10th, 2022
Clink clink. Chitty chitty! Bang bang. Ah, the sound of YNAB improvements and updates. Instead of dealing with the construction noise, why don’t you come back around soon to see the renovations? We can’t wait to show you our updated spaces.
November 7th, 2022
Did you start inviting loved ones to YNAB Together? If not, stop reading this immediately and go do it!
In other news, the YNAB loading tree got a bit fancier this week 💅
November 2nd, 2022
Introducing YNAB Together! 🎉 Invite your partner, family, or close-knit group (up to five people) to your YNAB Together group where each receives their own account and login. Members can share budgets and success stories – and it’s all included with your subscription!
And as if it wasn’t enough: targets got a little bit shinier to prepare for the holidays, calculations are now taking parentheses into account, and we adjusted the logic of loan payments to properly reflect the amount of remaining payments at the start of the month.
October 31st, 2022
If you love a page turner that keeps you guessing, then you’ll love this release. The next chapter of improvements gets really good. Happy Halloween 🎃!
October 26th, 2022
It’s when you can’t see the bats…that’s when you know the bats are coming. By bats, we mean updates and improvements. Be aware! Be ready! But don’t be afraid.
October 24th, 2022
Happy Monday, we’re back with another bug fix and a bunch of behind the scenes fun and games that I can’t tell you about quite yet. Today’s release addresses an issue where tracking accounts that had been migrated to the Loan Planner feature and then deleted would unexpectedly reappear. No one likes tracking accounts that unexpectedly return from the dead—at least not until Halloween 🎃
October 19th, 2022
Welcome to today’s release notes, where we fixed some more “fun” (and by fun I mean not fun) bugs. First, we addressed an issue that would sometimes cause updating linked account connections to fail in peculiar ways—that one’s hard to explain, you’ll just have to trust me. We also fixed one where, when filtering transactions by first disabling and then enabling the Show Flags option, the Date and Category columns would progressively get smaller, illegible, and eventually disappear 😱. That won’t happen anymore. That’s not all! We handled another issue where the scheduled transaction header would stay in the same position and magically float on top of the transaction date as you scrolled through the register. It was magical, but not in the good way, and it also won’t happen anymore. Finally, we addressed two issues where expanding category groups was unexpectedly disabled. You can now once again collapse and expand category groups to your hearts content. Huzzah!
October 17th, 2022
We’re starting the week with some bug fixes for loan account users. We fixed a bug that hides a scheduled payment from the Account Activity if it is part of a split transaction. Now, your split-scheduled transactions appear under Account Activity, just like any typically scheduled transaction! Bug bye 👋
October 12th, 2022
Happy Wednesday! Today’s release is filled with some backend changes to support a larger release in the upcoming days. I won’t spoil it for you, but all I can say is: great things are coming for all of us together – and I’m not only talking about Halloween candy. 👻
October 10th, 2022
Hello friendly budgeters! Today we have a handful of bug fixes for you. If you’re a budget-exporter and flag-namer, you’ll be happy to see flag names exporting with your budget data. The Credit Card Activity tooltip no longer shows gibberish. And the date selector no longer incorrectly shows a selected day when you switch months.
October 5th, 2022
It’s Customer Service Week! We have a very apropos update today. This release contains a bunch of behind-the-scenes goodies that’ll help our Support team help you. We hope you never need help, of course; but if you do, there’s no one better than YNAB Support!
October 3rd, 2022
Another shoutout to the juicy bits we have in progress over on Up Next—as those projects near release we’re fixing bugs and cleaning up in preparation (read: no user facing changes included in today’s release).
September 28th, 2022
Backend updates today to keep it all running (and to clear the path for all that’s coming Up Next!)
September 26th, 2022
Friends, YNABers, Budget Nerds, lend us your ears! We gather here today to witness this release note, announcing nothing in particular to be witnessed today. But fear not, dear friends, YNABers, Budget Nerds! You shall be granted news and awarded knighthood for your patience in the very near future.
September 21st, 2022
In today’s release we’ve fixed a bug where deleting a loan account on iOS would lead to the app crashing. Not a good look, won’t happen anymore. Happy Wednesday!
September 19th, 2022
We are starting the week with an update on the Loan Accounts! You can now edit monthly interest and escrow charges in current or past months and add interest-only charges using the Add Activity dropdown. We hope you have an interesting week! 😊
September 12th, 2022
This week (September 12th-16th) most of the YNAB team is away at our annual retreat, doing fun things and getting to know each other better. Because of this, we won’t do either of our scheduled releases. We’ll be back next week with renewed spirit, in the meantime, take a listen to the YNAB mixtape, see you soon!
September 7th, 2022
You can now set custom names for transaction flags in YNAB on web & iOS! This update allows you to give your flags a useful name like “Health Care” or “Tax deductible” or, well, just about anything! You can also resize the flags column on the web to show/hide flag names to your heart’s desire. This feature is coming to Android soon!
September 5th, 2022
It’s a great day to have a great day. Beyond that, not much to report! Continue having a great day, and come back next time for some seriously great updates.
August 31st, 2022
Selecting a transaction to flag it was automatically approving said transaction. Talk about unexpected behavior! We fixed that bug and are adding a bunch of behind-the-scenes improvements in this last release of August.
August 29th, 2022
Tired of your DoorDash orders all importing as Chipotle? (I got Taco Bell tonight, it’s entirely different!). For Payees where Renaming Rules exist you can now “Stop Renaming” a payee directly from the bank import details dropdown in the web app.
August 24th, 2022
Today’s release contains myriad behind-the-scenes enhancements paving the way toward exciting things coming later this year. Get out and enjoy the summer while it lasts!
August 22nd, 2022
Today’s release features a win for all your little mouse-clicking muscles: now you can collapse and expand all category groups with one. single. click. (This feature will be coming soon to iOS and Android apps, too!)
August 17th, 2022
Amidst a slew of quiet backend updates, we have one user-facing change today for all you file-based import fans. Now, when clicking into the payee field of a transaction imported through file-based import, you’ll see the original payee name in the Bank Import Details section to the right.
August 15th, 2022
Ok it’s still not arms wide open time, but I am happy to report that in this release we fixed an issue where the “i” icon would bounce unsettlingly when editing transactions. No one likes an unsettlingly bouncing “i”. We also adjusted the date formatting for downloaded budget files. We had a brief dalliance with local date formatting, but we’ve returned to yyyy-mm-dd.
August 10th, 2022
Welcome to this place! It’s another one of those days where everything we’re releasing is behind the scenes, but we still need to write a release note. Very soon, we’ll make like Creed and show you everything, oh yeah, with arms wide open, with arms wide open.
August 8th, 2022
Happy Monday! We are starting the week with many behind-the-scenes fixes. 🔧
August 3rd, 2022
We are enjoying the middle of the week with improvements to our developer environments and processes! Happy Wednesday 😊
August 1st, 2022
All behind the scenes fixes on the web today! While you’re here, though…do you know any college students who are heading back to their university classes this month? Let ‘em know that they can get a free year of YNAB through our college program. Yes, free! Wowza!
July 27th, 2022
Hey hey hey, it’s Wednesday-day-day! Android users entering and editing transactions will notice that the toggle between outflow & inflow has a new look. Instead of seeing a +/- button, you’ll see a more user-friendly toggle to assign money as inflow (green!) or outflow (red!). This is part of a larger, phased update to mobile transaction entry making it easier and more efficient to enter and edit transactions on the fly.
July 25th, 2022
It was an itsy bitsy teenie weenie yellow polka dot releasie. Aka just bug fixes going out today.
July 18th, 2022
Happy Monday, YNABers! (Or whatever day you’re reading this…) We have a handful of bug fixes and small improvements on the menu this week. It’s now easier to access and manage Google Play subscriptions when you’re using the web app. Historical escrow amounts will be reflected accurately if you update the current month’s escrow. If your loan balance goes positive, it will accurately be reflected as paid off (congratulations!). And if you want to view upcoming activity from a loan account, you’ll no longer be met with a frozen window!
July 13th, 2022
Hi, hello! 👋 Today’s release is packed with back-end improvements paving the way for exciting new goodness in Financial Wellness by YNAB-land. We also fixed a bug when exporting budgets on Windows. We’ll take this opportunity to wish you a very happy July 13th! We hope your mid-month budgeting is as clear and happy as the big blue sky in Seattle. (Fun fact: did you know Seattleites have a running joke that summer doesn’t start until July 5th? Now you do! ✨)
July 11th, 2022
Is it time for a dog days of summer reference? Seems about right. While there isn’t much to see from your vantage point in today’s release, upcoming feature releases are already heating up! Interestingly, in writing this we found out that the “dog days” reference has nothing to do with actual dogs and instead is a reference to Sirius, the brightest star in the constellation Canis Major, which means “big dog” in Latin.
July 6th, 2022
Mostly updates on the backend today, with one exception: since the Manage Connections button only works in the context of a specific budget, we removed the button from the settings dropdown on the budget picker screen. Once you’ve opened a budget, you’ll still see that option in the top left settings dropdown.
July 5th, 2022
In today’s release we fixed a bug where if you highlighted a number in the budget screen inspector, and then dragged that number over one of your category rows, the height of that category would inexplicably change. We also improved category and account dragging behavior: previously, when reordering categories or accounts it would appear as though the category/account in question would first return to its original spot and then “jump” to its new one. No longer! Observe that smooth, smooth drag.
June 29th, 2022
In today’s release, we’re making a few small changes to the Loan Planner screen—updating the header color and adjusting language for clarity and consistency. Also, did you hear the big news? We launched Financial Wellness by YNAB! It’s now incredibly easy for companies to offer YNAB as a workplace benefit (and even easier for you to copy/paste these templates and send to HR to get the ball rolling). Learn how teams can tackle financial stress here.
June 27th, 2022
New week, new fixes! We are starting the week with a backend-focused release full of behind-the-scenes tweaks. Happy Monday! 😊
June 22nd, 2022
Happy Wednesday! In today’s release, you can choose if you want to pair your Loan to a Budget category or skip pairing when creating a new Loan Account. When editing a Loan Account, it’s also easier to unpair and re-pair your Loans from Budget categories. The account details pop-ups also have a new look. Self-service at its finest and looking better than ever! 😎
June 20th, 2022
In today’s release, we’ve fixed a bug that left some parts of the Edit Transaction dropdown inaccessible in smaller browser windows. You can now scroll through the full dropdown regardless of the height of your browser window. Happy editing! 🎉
June 15th, 2022
Today’s release includes behind-the-scenes tweaks to direct import and account creation that help us help you when troubles arise while connecting to financial institutions.
June 13th, 2022
This release brings you a small but mighty improvement to weekly targets. Now, if you create a weekly target after the month has already begun, you’ll only be prompted to fund the remaining weeks in the month (previously you were prompted for the full month including weeks before the target was created).
June 8th, 2022
Many behind-the-scenes updates in this release — beep boop beep — we also made adding a transaction a little bit faster — beep.
June 6th, 2022
Once again, all of today’s release is adding building blocks for future bigger feature releases. Not quite ready for prime time, but we’re getting ever closer! We did release a small fix to the information window that appears when you hover over the import status of a connected account. It shouldn’t “flash” anymore on Chrome and Firefox.
June 2nd, 2022
YNABers with EU/UK direct import connections were not able to reauthenticate, instead an incorrect credentials error message was being shown. This has been fixed.
June 1st, 2022
More fixes and improvements in today’s release: we’re fixing a rather obtuse behaviour where editing a pending transaction with a future date could be converted to a scheduled transaction when you clicked on the “Enter Now” button. This should not happen anymore and will now be posted with the current date in the transaction list. We also fixed an issue with transfers between accounts and the undo/redo buttons. They should play along much better now.
Finally, we also improved our “internet and tubes” error message in cases where the crash could be linked to the Toolkit being installed.
May 30th, 2022
A bit of a fix-it day today. YNAB now has better support for screen readers within the Budget. Customizing your first budget has also gotten a little smoother as we’ve reduced some friction around removing the default categories when setting everything up for the first time. And, we’ve fixed a bug where hitting the Esc key while viewing transactions within Manage Payees exited you out of both modals instead of just the one.
May 25th, 2022
A quiet Wednesday release this week: imagine the sounds of consistent, gentle tinkering and a little polishing here and there and you’ll get the vibe.
May 23rd, 2022
Today’s release brings a fresh crop of bug fixes to the Loan Planner. Previously, the “Select Account” field in the “Add Payment” popup did not respond to mouse clicks, and was responding to up/down arrow keys in reverse. That was disconcerting and unexpected—no longer! In addition, the “Payoff Date” field now responds to key presses and when editing the payment date in the “Add Activity” popup, the escape key and screen resizing will function properly. Go forth and edit your loan payments, for now they shall behave much better. Finally, we also fixed a small bug where YNAB wouldn’t highlight newly edited sub-split transactions. That won’t happen anymore.
Update: Another release today fixing display issues with the “Using Credit Cards in YNAB” modal.
May 17th, 2022
In today’s release, we fixed an issue where we would incorrectly assume that an account was in overdraft when in fact, it was not. We won’t do that anymore. Happy Tuesday!
May 13th, 2022
Many small improvements coming to you with this release. First of all, we made some changes to the bank connection flows: removing some extra steps and adding shortcuts to more easily identify the connections that need your attention. We also fixed a pesky bug that was making it difficult to select text in a budget field. And finally, we improved the loan planner to be able to handle large one-time extra payments. Take that, debt.
May 5th, 2022
We improved the Loan Planner’s simulator to more accurately reflect payoff dates when testing different payment options and we now count the fees or charges as a change in the “principal paid so far” rather than as payments. We also fixed a bug that would sometimes cause the undo button to appear greyed out in the Manage Payees window.
May 3rd, 2022
Today’s release brings a fresh look to the Make a Fresh Start modal. Aww yeah!
April 29th, 2022
Today’s release is wearing all black — not because it thinks it’s too cool for school — it’s just all behind-the-scenes improvements. Speaking of fashionable choices though, if you’re looking for a fresh look for your YNAB app on iOS new app icons are now available through the Settings menu!
April 21st, 2022
Today we’re bringing the Overspent Filter to the web app! Fans of the YNAB mobile app will be familiar with the banner that gives quick access to overspent categories; now you can roll with the punches just as quickly and effortlessly on web! With one click you can access (and take action on) all the overspent categories in your budget.
April 19th, 2022
If you use the YNAB iOS app, keep your eyes out for some exciting updates later this week, and in the meantime, check out the transaction entry screen—we’ve made some additional changes to the layout and organization to help increase learnability and make way for additional features coming down the pike. In web-land, we’ve squashed a bug that was preventing some YNABers from setting up certain debt accounts and another that was causing the app to crash in certain scenarios.
April 14th, 2022
Today, we’re releasing a volley of small improvements: we’ve fixed an issue in date picker calendars that could result in the selected day looking a little too much like an oval instead of looking like a circle. We’ve added some new currencies that have been requested, so budgeters in Sierra Leone, Laos, Kyrgyz Republic and in the Republic of Cape Verde, rejoice! We’ve also fixed a crash that appeared when you would delete all the default categories during onboarding. Last (but not least!) we’ve updated the behaviour of the Payee and of the Category dropdown when scrolling the transaction list.
April 12th, 2022
In today’s release we’ve updated the calendar that appears when you pick a date for a transaction. We’ve made it easier to separate the current day from the day you’re selecting and overall improved the look and feel of the calendar! We’ve also fixed a bug in the progress bars that would make the sections look too small in certain cases!
April 7th, 2022
Much like April showers bringing May flowers, much of today’s release includes groundwork for new features to come. One little bud you’ll notice the next time you pay off a loan: YNAB now recognizes the new status with the proper confetti emoji and a liberal use of exclamation points! We’ve also fixed a bug where your repeating monthly needed for spending target may have been off by a day.
April 5th, 2022
A bevy of bug fixes in today’s release: some visible, some not! One you may notice: in some cases the Reduce Overfunding button was not calculating correctly for Target Savings goals — that’s now fixed. And another: the New Category modal was acting all floaty and out of position when you clicked it into existence. No more!
April 1, 2022
The icons that are beside linked accounts to let you know you need to troubleshoot the connection to continue importing transactions were not showing up. Call me the magic man, now you see them, now you don’t. Well… and now you see them again.

Today’s release fixes an issue where, occasionally, if you made a change to the “Monthly Payment” field in the Loan Planner, and then navigated to a different loan account, the numbers entered in the first account would persist. That was strange and unexpected and it won’t happen anymore.
March 29th, 2022
In today’s release, we fixed a bug where a Savings Balance Target with no date would show the Reduce Overfunding option if the Target was previously met and new money was budgeted, even if the Target is not currently met. Did you catch that 😅? Yeah, same. Nothing else to report, happy Tuesday!
March 24th, 2022
Another quiet day with many behind-the-scenes updates here, but yesterday was a big one for Android: you can now subscribe via the Google Play Store! Didn’t know we have an Android app? Check it out.
March 22nd, 2022
Auto-assign now takes into account debt payment target due dates to correctly prioritize how money is auto-assigned into loan accounts.
And: a pesky empty whitespace was appearing for some of you at the bottom of the screen, we removed it. Someone said spring cleaning?
March 17th, 2022
We fixed a bug with loan targets where payment budget bars sometimes appeared red if a loan target was funded in a previous month. No more!
March 15th, 2022
Today we are highlighting mobile updates! Android users should check their device as we’ve added equation keys to the transaction entry screen! For now, this update only applies to single-category transactions, but look for these keys on the split transaction screen in a future release. iOS users will also notice a change: the toggle on the transaction entry screen has a new look! This design improves legibility and helps new users quickly learn the foundations of managing transactions in YNAB. Also, it’s snazzy. Who doesn’t love a snazzy toggle?
March 10th, 2022
We put together a lot of great behind-the-scenes fixes in today’s release, but don’t worry — we didn’t overtax ourselves. Speaking of taxes, are you in the U.S. and looking forward to a refund this tax season? If you’re wondering how to put that money to work we have a few ideas for you!
March 8th, 2022
Many fixes and improvements in today’s release, but it’s not all structural! Eagle eyed budgeters will notice new icons in the settings menu in the web app.
March 4th, 2022
YNABers connected to UK/EU banks might’ve noticed that, even after successfully reauthorizing a connection, YNAB would still indicate that the connection needed to reauthorize. And then, when you try to reauthorize again, it says it is successful… but then the connection STILL says it needs to reauthorize. 🤦 We have fixed this bug! A successful reauthorization will no longer make you feel like the star of Groundhog Day.
March 3rd, 2022
It’s a quiet day in YNAB-land; please enjoy today’s release of behind-the-scenes improvements.
March 1st, 2022
Happy spring! Wait… too soon? I saw ‘March’ and got a little ahead of myself. Today’s release (like the weather this time of year) is anticipatory; great things are happening behind-the-scenes that will be coming soon to a budget near you. For now, hunker in and join me in enjoying every last minute of sweater season!
February 24th, 2022
In today’s release, we’re fixing some reported issues around currency symbols and adding a number of requested currencies. You can now budget in Angolan Kwanza, Fijian Dollars, Malagasy Ariary, Nepalese Rupee and Aruban Florin! Did you know the 50c Aruban Florin is a square coin? 🤩
February 23, 2022
Happy Twosday! We’re so sorry to have missed our regularly scheduled release, but hopefully this makes it up to you. Two things in today’s release: we fixed a bug in the “Record Payment” screens for the loan planner: the calendar date picker was appearing in the wrong place! It should now pop up over the date field, as expected. We also made a small spacing improvement to the UI in the credit card “Move Money” window.
February 17th, 2022
In today’s release we fixed an issue where targets could show the wrong date in months with fewer than 31 days. As it turns out, calendars can be real head-scratchers. We also made some updates to our supported currencies. We’ve removed the Latvian Lats (replaced by the Euro in 2014), added the Malawi Kwacha, and added the Rwandan Franc. I don’t have a pithy ending for this release note, so I’m just going to awkwardly sign off now.
February 15th, 2022
Lots of underlying dependency updates in today’s release—gotta keep up with the times! Also, we now show a warning if you attempt to link a bank account that has a different currency than the currency of your budget. Say that one three times fast. Happy budgeting!
February 10th, 2022
Not much for spectators in today’s web release (backend updates, paving the way for future features, yadda yadda). More time for budgeting! 😉
February 8th, 2022
Today’s release includes one bug fix for loan accounts with interest payment history. We now consider any already-cleared interest paid when calculating the cleared and uncleared balances on loan accounts, making sure that there’s no chance for a double interest charge. Otherwise, tweaking and polishing our backstage setup today.

Optimizers rejoice! With today’s web release, switching budgets in the web app now only requires two clicks, not three! To switch between multiple budgets on one account, click on your budget name in the upper left and you’ll now see the new Open Budget submenu with a list of your recent budgets (up to 5) and the option to view all budgets if you have more.
Also with today’s release, peek inside the magic of your budget’s Auto Assign allotments! Now when you use Auto Assign budget-wide, YNAB will show a more detailed summary of what’s about to happen.
January 25th, 2022
Today’s release is of the “eat your veggies” variety, chock-full of vitamins and minerals to keep your budget healthy. Not to say that we’re going to skip dessert – we’ve got some sweet things coming your way soon!
January 20th, 2022
Today’s update brings a handful of behind-the-scenes changes and a fix: if you have a loan account with a transaction on the same day as the starting balance, it won’t cause an error anymore!
We have a lot of great stuff in the works and we’re excited to get it into your hands. Want to be part of that? Come join us—we’re hiring!
January 18th, 2022
Today we’re bringing you two new currencies: the Zambian Kwacha and the Myanmar Kyat. We also have a couple currency fixes: we now use the proper symbols for the Kenyan Shilling (KSh) and the Danish Kroner (kr.). Thank you to the YNABers who reached out about the incorrect symbols!
January 13th, 2022
As our teams are mostly planning all the features and improvements we want to build in 2022, we don’t have anything juicy to share in this release. It’s all a hidden work-in-progress for now!
Sure this release may be small, but here’s something mighty: saving $1,000 in just a month! Try your hand at our More Money Challenge, where the average participant saves $1,000 in just 30 days by following three simple rules. How hard could it be, right?
January 11th, 2022
With this release, we’re improving some of the machinery under the hood that powers YNAB. We also fixed a couple of issues: we added a custom note to the invoices of users located in Texas to be more helpful, and made some improvements to Direct Import in the EU. We also fixed a bug that would duplicate payee locations on mobile if you’re using Geo Payees!
January 6th, 2022
Another mostly behind the scenes release today. We did, however, fix a bug where loan accounts migrated from pre-existing tracking accounts would use the wrong currency format, causing the balance to be woefully incorrect. Not to worry, that won’t happen anymore.
January 4th, 2022
Happy New Year dear readers! Welcome to 2022. Lots of changes happening under the hood today, but not much to report. In fact, all I have to report is that we removed two extra spaces that were lurking in one of our success message modals. We can’t have that, not in 2022. Begone extra spaces, begone!
December 9th, 2021
Today’s release includes hidden behind the scenes fixes, much like your budget could contain hidden gifts. Not sure how? Check out our blog post on how to hide gifts when sharing a budget.
December 8th, 2021
We have a small fix for you today: rather than not showing the Payee row in the Matched Transaction popup when there isn’t a payee name present, we will now show the the text “None.” Hopefully this helps to remove any confusion!
December 2nd, 2021

There are some small fixes for the Loan Planner today, but otherwise it’s pretty sleepy around here. Thursday’s a holiday in the US, so we won’t be releasing again until NEXT Tuesday. Happy Thanksgiving to those of you celebrating this week!
November 18th, 2021
It’s a quiet day for user-facing changes on web, so Android gets the spotlight instead… Today brings an exciting change for Android users—fully editable pending transactions! Just tap on a transaction and make changes to your heart’s content. Looking for more info? Check out this help doc.
November 16th, 2021
Two squashed bugs in today’s release: if you’ve recently changed a liability type tracking account to our new loan account type, YNAB didn’t always cancel the original scheduled transactions the way you might expect. Now, any scheduled transactions created in the now-moot liability account will be cancelled. Any scheduled transactions created as transfers in other budget or tracking accounts will remain. Additionally, reconciling your Loan account now clears ALL of the account’s transactions—even those that aren’t listed in the register (those pesky interest and escrow transactions).
November 11th, 2021
In this release we fixed a bug that was preventing some users from transitioning their existing tracking accounts to the new Loan Planner accounts. Turns out, the bug came from an issue with timezones. Who would’ve thought? Not me, that’s for sure. If you haven’t already, check out the new Loan Planner, it’s a mighty strong tool for making informed choices crushing your debt.
November 10th, 2021
Today’s release includes some enhancements to the adding suggested categories experience. It also includes a very long list of things that are not visible at all, but we can’t wait to tell you about in the near future. Keep an eye on the Up Next page for more updates soon.

November 2nd, 2021
In today’s release, we’re fixing a bug that would appear in rare cases with loan accounts not having any interest rate.

We’ve also fixed some visual issues that happened in dark mode with the account/subscription settings. Also, we’re starting to gradually release new features to help you manage mortgages and loans. If you don’t see them in your account yet, expect them in the next few days as we’re slowly rolling them out to everyone!
