Em Lowing
My approach to money planning starts with empathy, and patience. The financial unknown can be scary, and I’m here to shed gentle light on a path forward. Spending choices reflect our values; my goal is to help you regain peace of mind and live in fulfilling alignment with your priorities.
My Background
Growing up in a large low-middle class family, I watched my parents live paycheck to paycheck their whole lives, to this day. Despite a higher-paying career, I was on the same track when I came across YNAB in 2018 and after several attempts, it finally stuck and completely rearranged how I think about money. Learning that personal finance was complicated and scary, I thought I’d never reach advanced skills like planning and saving. But the only scary part was not knowing; once I had the whole picture in YNAB, accepting and adapting to my reality was a welcome relief.
Why Work with Me
With a long background in technical support and as the family IT person, my learning space is strictly judgment-free. I’ve helped countless friends and family young and old through financial situations, and seen shame prevent so many people from seeking support earlier. Whether you’re fresh out of school stretching an entry-level paycheck or making a fixed income last in retirement, we’ll piece together your full financial picture and make a plan anchored in reality, guided by your values, and pointing toward your vision for the future.
Why I Coach
I help people feel empowered in their finances because every day I see up close the effects of letting fear dictate your relationship with money. A close relative is a decade past retirement age and still working because they’re afraid they can’t afford to retire. It may in fact be possible, but after decades of operating in ignorance, the big picture feels too overwhelming to face. The unknown can be scary, I’ve been there, and now I’m lucky enough to get to help you dispel that fear and regain a sense of possibility when making decisions for your future.
